The Role of Soil and Water conservation in Prince William’s Future
The conservation of the county’s soil, water, and related resources is fundamental to the long run health of the land we live on and the water we use. As critical water shortages and related problems rise up in other regions of the America and the world a well-managed water environment is one of the key things that makes Prince William an attractive place to live, work and to raise a family. Economically our county currently looks mostly like a place of some light industry, some offices and retail with many scattered residences and much agriculture. Rather than developing as strictly the next copy of Fairfax with its traffic, overcrowding and now water challenges, Prince William has a special opportunity to build on its natural advantages. It can also thrive economically by preserving and growing its character as a destination for the entire capital region for outdoor activities and enjoyment and for locally raised high quality and healthy food and hopefully more wineries and farm breweries. The residents of the county continue to show great wisdom by resisting the things such as poorly placed power lines and new parkways that undermine the natural beauty and heritage that make the county special. The residents understand that the right growth vision for Prince William will preserve our natural advantages rather than think of them as obstacles and soil and water conservation are critical to this growth.
